Butterfly From The Ocean: The Flying Fish

The Flying fish can be seen throughout warm ocean water worldwide. Their streamline torpedo shape body and large wing-like pectoral fins enable them to gather enough speed to break through water surface and airborne.
These flying fish are unique because of the diverse colouration on their "wings" which resemble the butterfly. Their gliding ability is thought to be adopted to escape large predators such as tuna and swordfish.

They gain valocity at about 37 miles or 60 km per hour, once break through surface, they begins to taxi by rapidly flapping its tail which is still under surface.

Once airborne, sometimes reaching heights over 4 feet or 1.2 meters, they are capable of gliding long distances up to 655 feet or 200 meters. Their recorded glides spanning distances was up to 1,312 feet or 400 meters.
