
The Aconcagua is the world's highest dead volcano. In fact, it is also the highest peak in the Western and Southern Hemisphere. The highest peak among clusters of several mountains, including The Cuerno, Catedral, Bonete and De Los Dedos, is 6, 960 m in height.

The Andes was form by tectonic forces. The collision generated forces that trigger earthquakes and volcanic eruptions. The Aconcagua was once an active volcano too.

Like most of the famous mountain in the world, Aconcagua has a few names too. Aconcagua is the name given in Aymaran language which means Snowy Mountain. On the other hand, some has found a similar name in the Quechua language " Ackon-Cahuac", which means Stone Watch.
